charity:water and Minecraft

Our free content traded downloads for donations

It’s a sad truth that over 771 million people don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water. charity:water is on a mission to change that. Our in-game Minecraft worlds are often lush with clean water flows, so we thought it was appropriate to educate and help.

Mojang Studios teamed up with Jigarbov Productions to create a free Marketplace map and skin pack that tasked players with exploring villages and helping their inhabitants. And it proved to be extremely popular. In fact, The Travelling Trader map was downloaded 100,000 times in one day!

As a result, we donated a total of $100,000 to charity:water helping them to work with local partners and facilitate comprehensive water, sanitation, and hygiene to protect the long-term health of people around the world.
