Introducing the Minecraft Item Wizard in Blockbench

The Wizard trifecta is complete!

Imagine an Overworld in which crossbows can fire creepers, water turns lava into diamond blocks, or chickens lay spawner eggs. Crazy thoughts, we know, but what would you say if we told you this is now reality within the realms of Minecraft? If your answer is something along the lines of “Poppycock, when pigs fly!” you’ll be glad to know that that is possible as well – because thanks to our friend Jannis at Blockbench, making custom Minecraft items, entities, and blocks has never been easier! Introducing: the Minecraft Item Wizard!

WHAT IS THE ITEM WIZARD?

The Item Wizard is like the Entity and Block Wizards, but for items.

For beginners, the Item Wizard adds a layer of visualization and presets to customize how an item behaves and appears. You can easily then use it in-game without ever needing to modify the files. Seeing item properties in the context of a UI also makes tinkering with files a lot easier!

For experts, a huge benefit to the Item Wizard is that the administrative work of generating the resource/behavior pack files is done for you, so that you can save time and get right to the fun part of designing your Minecraft items and directly modifying the code.

As additional features are released in Minecraft, the Wizards will also be updated accordingly.

HOW DO I TRY IT OUT?

  1. Install Blockbench.
  2. Install Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and/or Minecraft Preview (pro-tip: you can download Bedrock Edition and Preview via the Minecraft Launcher–download from the Microsoft Store.)
  3. Add the Item Wizard plugin to Blockbench by navigating to File -> Plugins -> Search for "Item Wizard" and install.
  4. Create your own item, activate it as a resource/behavior pack, and then play in-game!
  5. Share with the Minecraft team building creator tools! Post on Twitter with #MinecraftCreator and tag @Minecraft and @Blockbench!

DOCUMENTATION AND TUTORIALS
