What your Minecraft Legends mount says about you

Walking used to be one of my favorite things to do until I discovered sitting down. But what if there was a way to sit down and move at the same time? Only one videogame in the entire history of the medium has dared to realize such a dream. I speak of course of Minecraft Legends and its rideable mounts. Did you know there’s not one, not two, but three rideable mounts in Minecraft Legends? Here’s some more good news – there’s actually four!

I thought I’d selflessly break down what’s great and not-so-great about each of these mounts and what your choice of ride says about YOU. Am I a professional psychologist who’s qualified to do such a thing? We can discuss that later. Onwards to the list!

THE HORSE

This stable steed will be your starting mount and they’re a great all-rounder. Any particularly amazing abilities? Neigh, but turn that long-faced frown upside down because this magnificent mare does a little bit of everything rather well.

You’re loyal! Because you didn’t heartlessly replace your horsey chum as soon as something fancier came along. Or maybe you just think riding a bug is gross. Speaking of which…

THE BRILLIANT BEETLE

Oh ho ho - brilliant, are we? I’ve met some egotistical bugs in my time, but never one with such a braggy prefix. Saying that, this beetle absolutely does meet the hype. It’s the slowest mount, but makes up for that by 1) being a speedy swimmer in water 2) being able to ascend mountains and cliff faces, and 3) even being able to fly. It can only fly for a little while, true, but that’s still longer than you and I can fly, buddy, so let’s not throw shade.

WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT YOU IF YOU PICK THIS MOUNT?

You’re willing to take things slow and steady in return for greater long-term success. You don’t even know the meaning of the word entomophobia! (That’s a compliment for your lack of bug phobia by the way, not a burn on your intelligence).

THE REGAL TIGER

Winner of ‘Mount That Most Urgently Needs to See a Dentist,’ the regal tiger is also one fast feline. It’s the speediest mount, making it a great choice for explorers who don’t mind the fact it’s not the best climber. The word ‘regal’ means to be so beautiful and impressive that you’re worthy of a King or Queen. So if you’re one of our many King or Queen readers, ignore this one and pick the brilliant beetle. Imagine how surprised your subjects will be! Sorry if this gets you dethroned :(

You’re a cat person. You’re impatient. You’re bad at climbing. You don’t like being insulted like this. You’re considering setting your tiger on me. You’re… actually, I think I’ll shut up now.

THE BIG BEAK

This colourful cutie might just be my favorite mount. The big beak has the highest jump and can glide for as long as you wish. You’ll need the Brilliant Beetle for ascending the tallest peaks, but this feathered friend is still a fantastic choice of companion. Which is annoying, because I was really looking forward to calling it the Big BLEAK. Bah!

WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT YOU IF YOU PICK THIS MOUNT?

The ground was never enough for you. You’ve always dreamed of soaring the skies. You’re a bold explorer with an affinity for bright colours. You leap at opportunity! You had a terrible relationship with your mother. Er, actually, ignore that last one. I’m probably just projecting.

THE FEARLESS FROG

A frog without fear? Sounds a lot more fun that the tentative toad, a cowardly mount that luckily I’ve just made up. No, stick with our fearless new friend instead, who has a gravity-disrespecting double jump! Such brazen breaking of the laws of physics will have Sir Issac Newton’s ghost weeping. But now you can just jump over him, so who cares? In fact, the fearless frog jumps higher than all the other mounts! (If a brilliant beetle tells you that it can jump higher, I’m afraid it’s lying to you). 

What I like best about this brave little amphibian is that it’s the fastest swimmer, which encourages you to explore Minecraft Legends in a whole new way. Before, waterways were tiresome obstacles that made me all soggy. But now they’re my favorite way to navigate the Overworld. Thanks frog!
